Scope of Practice for Seating and Wheeled Mobility Clinical Services

Scope of Practice for Seating and Wheeled Mobility Clinical Services

This Scope of Practice aims to clearly describe best practice methods for providing clinical services in seating and wheeled mobility (SWM). Clinical practice in SWM depends on many factors, including, but not limited to, the practitioners’ expertise, practice settings, organization within which SWM clinical services are provided, available funding, and the clients themselves, their health status, diagnoses, ages, and more. While clinicians’ practice in SWM are influenced by these factors and more, each evaluation for SWM equipment requires the execution of certain responsibilities and tasks that will lead the client to the equipment they need to support and maximize their health and function. The expert experience in clinical practice and advocacy to protect client access to CRT, as well as knowledge of the current evidence base, provides the basis for this document. With this in mind, we define best practice in SWM clinical services to guide clinicians and others with our role in the CRT acquisition and training process.
